Isanti saved $32,000 by replacing our Clerk with assistant clerk and paying our Administrator $7000 more to take on statutory clerk duties... Council Member Larson and Lundeen objected to this at last nights Council meeting. If we did not pay our Administrator to do the Clerk duties we would have had to hire another position.
It is easy to score political points by opposing what appears to be an expense but it is really a savings of $32,000 because our previous clerk cost the City $89,000 in salary and benefits... we replaced this with an assistant clerk/hr position costing us $50,000 salary and benefits.... take away the $7,000 for the legally required statutory duties of a clerk that were absorbed by the City Administrator and you get to our total savings of $32,000. If we did not take these actions we would have lost money...
I found it incredulous that those that have wasted taxpayers money so frivolously in the past would make such an argument. Leadership entails educating the public not simply bending to uninformed opinion....

This is no different from earlier postings. You say everyone that disagrees with you is uninformed. What you have done is eliminate a position and claim victory.
You are so happy to save the city money by not hiring the old city clerk position, but when you had the chance to save way more money by replacing the police with sheriff deputies you chose not to. I see a disconect,if saving money is your goal you need to be consistent.
It is a victory to offer better service at a lower cost.... that is what we are suppose to do....
The only way to save money by eliminating the police department is to not get coverage from the sheriffs department which would leave the City unprotected.... that would be a disaster ....
While I disagree with you on some issues and am quick to let you know when I disagree. I have to agree with you on these issues. You didnt cut position at city hall, and the same work will get done for less money. But what I dont understand is if you hired a Assistant Clerk why is the Administrator recieving a $7000 raise. Couldnt you have just hired a Clerk and not gave that position the title of Assistant Administrator. If I remember right the previous Clerk got a large raise when she got the title City Clerk/ Assistant Administrator. And replacing Isanti's police force with the Sheriffs Department, that just doesnt even need to be explained. It would be a huge step backwards.
State law requires the position of Clerk with those duties being performed... We would not be able to assign higher level duties to a lower level employee... It would be like assigning police officer duties to a security guard
Oh and about $1,800 of the $7,000 was his cola increase that ever employee receives after two years of no increases..... So it is more like $5,200 increase due to the new duties
It was union negotiated cost of living increase that all employees received...
