The Council will be discussing several items of note at the meeting. The first item is the 2006 Financial Audit. There are several disturbing trends in the amount of City debt, spending and revenue sources. The previous Councils have spent well beyond the Isanti's capacity. One example is our bonded debt per capita has gone from $2,587 in 2004 to $3,214 in 2006. Our debt is out stripping our population growth. We can not continue on this course. I hope we will be able to prepare a budget for 2008 that brings discipline to City spending. The discussion of our Audit Report will lay the ground work for the budget debate that will start this summer.
The other item I want to talk about is the vehicle parking ordinance. We will be reviewing the recommendation of the Planning Commission on a revised ordinance. This covers commercial vehicles, large vehicles, boats, trailers and RVs to name a few. This will be a sweeping reform of the current standards. Once the revised ordinance is past there will be strong enforcement of the new rules.

If you have more than one trailer (i.e. boat and utility or snowmobile) you want to attend this meeting. one of the things they are proposing is a limit to one trailer parked in YOUR yard. I have a boat and a utility trailer and I know I am not the only one in this situation. In this state you summer for boating and winter for snowmobiling. That means you have alot of familys that have two trailers. I would like to see the limit set at two. This would be a little more realistic for this little town so far from the north metro. I do agree with some of what the proposal brings, but not all. If your in question you'd better show up to the meeting before you don't have a say in it and it's to late.
They are also proposing that you can only have your boat and trailer parked in your driveway for a two week max at a time. Please, this is the land of 10,000 lakes and a million boats. Is this going to far for this nice little town?
The limit, as proposed in the ordinace is for two if both are less than 20' in length, and one if greater than 20' in length. This total number applies to trailers, fish-houses, roll-off bins, and PODS.
The two week maximum was recommended for front yard/driveway storage as many different items (boat trailers, camping trailer, flat bed trailers, fish houses on wheels, etc) all are part of this section. For storage terms greater than 2 week periods, other locations are available such as side yard, and back yard.
I do see a need to limit the amount of trailers. 20 ft. boats are common and also 18 ft. boats are. This size of boat has a longer than 20 ft. trailer. I have a boat in this catagory along with a small utility trailer (5x10). I think that the boat trailers need to have a bigger limit in foot-wise. Your average family ski boat has a trailer 20-24 ft. in length. You then add to that the motor on the back. The boat and trailer get pretty long and not everybody has that deep of a garage to park them in. Your standard depth of the garages in the new development that I live in is 20ft. I know many people that have their boat in their driveway for the summer months and in storage in the winter. Now they won't be able to park them in their driveways not even during prime fishing and boating season for more than two weeks. This sounds a little to restrictive.
