Mayor Wimmer: If you are attempting to hold down city spending why did the council agree to fund the BMX soil mix? There are so few Isanti Residents who actually use that track and it seemed like an inconsistancy with what you are currently saying.
This statement seems to belong on the Council meeting....I agreed to the BMX expense because the other 4 members of the Council a month ago set-up a $20,000 fund, which I voted against, for non-budget items. The $2,300 for the BMX is taken out of this fund. I would have prefered this slush fund not be set-up. This year was slightly better in that previous years hundred's of thousands of dollars were spent from the excess taxation and fees. This year $125,000 was put to tax/debt reduction and $75,000 so far has been designated to be spent or put into this slush fund. I had wanted all $200,000 to go towards tax and debt relief. That was the 4-1 vote I lost on.
I also do not agree that only a few Isanti residents use the track. I do think it should be open to more residents however and that is why I and the Park and Recreation board have been working with the BMX association to have the community nights when non-members can ride the track. There are four nights slated this year.
How can you be critical of george and not anyone else. He does what he says and votes that way. george has been saying that taxes and spending should lower for years not as you say just currently. Some of the members campaigned about reducing taxes and as george said voted to spend $75,000 more money. Give me a break.
Ditto to Brian. Man they try to find any litle thing to go after you.
George has has done more than you think to save us money. I have been at 2 meetings in the last couple years when the budget was talked about. He and Kennedy were the only ones trying to stop all this wasteful spending. I wish more people would have voted for Kennedy.
I beleive out of respect for Lindsi and her family, we don't use this page for such talk at this time. Thanks. Me and my wife have been battling the kidney problems that our son has had since before birth. We have spent more time at Childrens Hospital than we care to mention and have more surgerys ahead. We can relate some what to what your family is going through, but not to that extent. Your family and new daughter are in our thoughts.
Thank you George for posting this on your blog. It is amazing that a baby that was 1lb 4oz at birth and now 2lb 11oz has so much power. She has brought family and friends together and she has changed lives of countless people. Dan Collison, thanks for your entry. We hope all goes well for your son in the future. You know as well as I do the doctors at Childrens are the best. Thank you to all that come out on Thursday and we look forward to seeing you there.

I am more than happy to help in any way I can. I can not imagine the strenght needed by Lindsi or your family. We are an extended family in Isanti and need to help as much as we can. I hope everyone that is able will show there support and help you through this time.
George, A few comments on the new liquor store. Why would we not move to 65, as that has the most visibility, and also the best resale value. Our liquor store is an enterprise fund, and should garner the most profit possible to help the city taxes. Hwy 65 was not an option when the store was moved from downtown, as the city did not extend that far, so 5 was the best location at that time. This is not so now. Cty 5 will lose traffic as Cty 9 will be the people mover in the near future. Cty 19 is also another possibility. Hwy 65 will only increase traffic in the future. The corner of 65 and 5 would be the best retail spot possible. The present liquor store WAS built with the idea of selling it and moving to a more advantageous location in the future. Demolition of a block building that is only 18 years old for an amount of $ 40 to $ 50 thousand dollars is unreal. Block buildings are meant to last many, many years. The location also has a tarred parking lot with curb and gutters, and 26 parking spaces, and the building is 60 x 80, 4800 sq. ft. adaptable to retail, offices, or industustrial use. Sale of the building, plus the lot N. of the store (which is owned by the City) should enable the purchase of land on hwy 65. As a long time tax payer in the City, I expect that all decisions should be fudiciary responsible to the citizens, enlarging the money returned to the City, to reduce taxes. The cooler is also only 18 years old, which by any standards, is not old. It is designed to be used for years by adding panels, and doors. The refrigeration unit would of course have to be new and larger. Shelves also do not "wear out", I find it hard to accept the concept of everything new, where is the recycle in this decision? The Council does a disservice to the people of Isanti, if you do not move to the best possible, as the saying goes, "location, location, location", as the means of making or breaking a retail project. We all know the liquor industry is changing, it is only a matter of time, when Municipals will no longer be a viable option. Wine in grocery store will be first, then everything will be available there, and the big stores will sell at or below cost to break the local stores. The counties will probably be the first to allow liquor stores within the 7 mile limit (all it needs is someone to contest that rule) as that is not a state law. This is our chance to make the most out of our circumstances, and we should go for the greatest amount that our enterprise fund can make for the City. The amount of this project will easily come to two million dollars by the time that everything is added in. Don't forget that the higher the cost of the project, the bigger the 15% to the architect will be, and also the bond.
