Now that the majority of the City Council has voted to participate in the County wide EDA I believe that they have sent 2 messages. One is that the current EDA board and its Community Development/EDA staff member are not doing a good enough job. After this decsion I we should save the City money and eliminate the staff person from the City and disban the Isanti City EDA. This EDA has been in existance longer than any other EDA within Isanti County but obviously our City Council does not value this board. So if we elimante the two items listed above we can then help fund the new County wide EDA. We don't get to vote on this board but they get to have Isanti tax payers money. Mr. Johnson, Mr. Kolb, and Ms. Larson seem to think that we need to pay our share so that we can be in the "group" and listen to what is being said. Have they not heard of the open meeting law? Even if we did not participate we would be allowed to sit in the meetings and I would believe that there is opportunity for public comment. This is the same format that we use for City Council meetings. You don't have to be a paying tax resident to voice an opinon. If this is such a great idea why didn't Braham decide to participate? Secondly it looks like we are back to the same politics that some of us worked hard to get rid of at the last election, "the good old boys". We have Johnson, Kolb and Larson all voting to spend, spend, spend. Way to go guys!!!
Good luck Mayor Wimmer and Council Member Duff. You both are trying to look at all of the issues throughly and make wise spending decsions. You are up against a step hill given the makeup of the rest of the council.
