Isanti Amphitheatre

We are moving forward with our Amphitheater in Isanti. It will be located in Blue Bird Park and will include a curved bandshell with electricity and changing rooms. We intend this area to be used several times a week for plays, concerts and movies in the park. I am interested to here from those that would like to perform using our facility. Please contact me at 763-442-8749 or george@georgewimmer.com

where is the city getting the money to pay for this ?

Park and Rec dedication fund. This is a fund paid into by developers and by state law can not be used for anything other than new park facilities... It is not from resident property taxes

An amphitheatre? Really who or what is going to use this? What needs to happen is something that will be used (whether its new or needs updating).

I'll start off with what could be "updated" using the fund money:

Renovate the ball field by the Elementary school. Blacktop the parking lot and/or add another field adjacent to this field some how. Maybe hold a few town tournaments that can would draw in other teams from around the area/state? This would bring in revenue to local businesses during a tournament.

- Update some of the play equipment at the Isanti City Park on Main Street. Update the picnic pavilion with running water restrooms (add this as well to Bluebird Park)

OR

Instead of adding something new like an amphitheatre, add something that would be used by local area citizens (I mean area as in Isanti, Kanabec, Chisago, Mille Lacs and possibly Anoka Co residents). A water park like the one in Mora. This would be a huge draw for the city. Again not just local residents but it would bring in outside people to our city to use the facility on a regular basis during the summer. This is something Isanti needs and that would be USED.

WHY an amphitheatre that may only be used a handfull of times (if that) a summer. Where as a water park would be used daily during the summer months.

Also does the city or fire department own the rodeo grounds? If the city does, why not use the rodeo grounds more than 1 time a year? These grounds could be great for a demo derby or something similar 3 or 4 times a year. I drive through Isanti and see so many of our "existing" parks and/or rec areas under utilized, that this could help.

Park dedication funds can not be used for replacement equipment due to State law. We can only use these funds for new land acquisition or new facilities.

Water parks and pools are significant money losers. These become a drain on the City's operating budget.

The City does not own the rodeo grands the fire association does.
