February 1st City Council Update

We approved our 3 year Police Union contract last night. The contract extends a 2nd year of zero pay increase on top of last years zero pay increase. There is a 1.5% increase in 2012 and a 2% increase in 2013. The major change was moving our Police Union employees off of the Gold health care plan that will save the City considerably over time. This move increases the cost sharing of health with our employees while maintaining a good health care plan. This shift has been a long term goal that we were finally able to achieve to ensure as efficient an operation as possible.

We recognized the great work by Officers Barrows and Gau at the Meeting last night.

Are you crazy??? Why in the world did you pay the police $500 to help them pay for insurance? You just don't get it, there is way too much overlap in law enforcement in this county. You had the chance to break away from the money sucking Isanti police and you blinked! Shame on you....

I think you are confused as to the negotiation process. This was a negotiation to get the most police protection for the best cost possible. This was not an attempt to eliminate a police department.... I wish you would have been at the Council meeting and heard how our Officers saved lives, enforced the law and saved a young teenage girl from an adult male sexual predator.... just a few cases...

I am not sure how much overlap there is when I constantly hear there is not enough police presence in the townships which is the County's main responsibility....
