County Budget Update

Isanti County budget fight - apparently the majority of the County Board thinks agreements are made before the meeting and dissent is not allowed as they raise our taxes again.

I did some quick research on taxes collected and population growth year to year:

-----tax revenue increase ---population increase

2003-------9.0% --------------4.6%
2004-------8.0% --------------3.4%
2005-------5.5% --------------3.3%
2006-------5.5%-------------- 2.0%
2007-------6.0%-------------- 1.2%
2008-------8.0% --------------0.5%

Avg--------7.0% --------------2.5%

So basically taxes have gone up nearly 200% faster than population growth. This again shows that the excuse of population growth for greater tax revenue is not correct.

Duff gets blasted for not agreeing to the "pre-vote" to raise taxes...what kind of county is this anyway? I found it funny that "Larson wants a zero percent increase" yet he votes to raise our taxes. Also, Daubt cuts down Duff for not being a leader for zero tax increases when he was the only one who voted against the increase. I need to get back to work so I can pay my increased county taxes, what a joke!

Please listen to the County Board Meeting audio at www.alanduff.net. You will see who is representing us in our county. The budget discussion is at about 45 minutes into the recording.

All the commissioners but Duff are admitting to routinely breaking the law. Do you want the good ‘ol boys running our government in 2010? We need county board reform now.

Are you serious? OPEN MEETING LAW appears to be violated!!! Where is the county's attorny and why is he allowing this.

“Mr. Duff, we sat around this board room yesterday and we all agreed— concurred— that this is what we’d do,” said Commissioner George Larson

That is in the newspaper. Who is investigating? Does the State do it?
