Interesting First Meeting

It was an odd meeting tonight when we were trying to schedule our Goal Setting Session for the end of the month. I have been pushing to spend time at the meeting to go over our financial plans for the next couple years to make sure the Council understands our fiscal predicament and to lay out policy decisions on how we will spend our dwindling resources. This would be just one of the topics we discuss and other items and goals the Council wants to discuss would be given the same amount of time as they always do. Generally each Council Member brings a list of items they want the Council to consider.

Council Member Larson went off for what seemed like ten minutes about all the things the City should be doing - this would be fine except for the fact these items are already being worked on. 80% to 90% of the items she raised are transportation issues which are being addressed in our Multi-model plan which she saw at Planning Commission - which she sits on - as well as at Council.

I was surprised she thought the City Taxpayer should start securing private right of way for a fictional 5/65 overpass which could cost the City hundreds of thousands of dollars for a state project. If the Council should ever think of doing that it might be the first time a City on its own accord did this for a state highway project that is not even on the state's funded 20 year plan. This is just one example of her desire to spend money we simply do not have. It would be nice instead of subsidizing the State's highway construction fund - the State might actually pay the City of Isanti the hundreds of thousands of dollars it owes us.

Other items such as rail industrial development is being worked on by the EDA which if she read the EDA minutes all Council Members receive she would know that. The hotel and Senior housing are also being worked on and recent meetings have been held on both topics as has been discussed by those committees responsible. She said the City should work more with the Chamber of Commerce... again just a few minutes earlier I reestablished the Chamber Liaison position. This position is a key link between the City and Chamber. I am also giving the State of the City at the Chamber's February luncheon meeting. The Council will also get a full review and assessment of our City's economic planning when the new Economic Director is hired per the plan the full Council has discussed.

These were just some of the items she raised which again would be fine but they are all being addressed. I do not know if she is planning to run for Mayor again or what the motivation is but it just seemed a bit silly.... I would say grandstanding but that comment has been over used of late.

That is nothing new George. Be careful. If you heard the conversations she has about you behind your back you would be shocked!

Another example of the disfunction that has plagued Isanti for too long--I'm talking about the Mayor publicly criticizing a member of his own team. Wonderful leadership, Your Honor.

Council Members are not on any team. Ms. Larson launched into a list of items that are already being worked on for what appeared to be purely political reasons. The items Ms. Larson claimed not to know about are items she has seen and voted on in public meetings - in some cases several times. Ms. Larson certainly is not on my "Team". Council members and Mayors are independent of each other.

There is always a cordial interaction at Council meetings as everyone including Ms. Larson adhere to Council Rules.

I am curious if you were just as concerned about months of criticism of me as Mayor when she ran against me in 2008?

The only real difference about my criticism and and anyone else's is I state mine in the open and sign my name to it. I do not hide as you and others do.

We need to keep moving Isanti forward through incredibly difficult times.

With an attitude like that, who would ever want to be on your team? Not me. No wonder why business are fleeing the city--that's why I did.

An attitude like what? I defend my position as anyone should. Other than not being nice enough in your estimation I am not sure what your critique is.

Actually to correct your misinformation. Isanti has grown with dozens of new businesses since 2007. The City has received numerous distinctions and the prestigious Economic Development Recruitment Award in 2008. We have added hundreds of new jobs to Isanti with those dozens of new companies.

This has slowed as the entire State, National and Global economy melted down. We have a positive outlook to weather this financial storm and in a bad situation we are sitting in a pretty good spot. Tough choices have to be made but that is not different than any other year.

George do not let such nonsense bother you. Why do you even let such crap on your blog. If anything you are to nice to people that just want you gone no matter if that would be terrible for the city. some people just hate you and they need to be ignored.

Funny that a mythical person seems to say he or she left the city only cause of you. Not a business decision but a personal decision.

My company would fail in a second if I stop doing business with people I did not like. Seems a pretty phony "anonymous" post.

Are you kidding me!!! I like the poll where some do not want to hear or read your State of the city. Even if they hate you as Ted said why not listen to what the Mayor says if even to disagree with you. The kind of people that do not want to even listen are the kind that are hard to understand.

You are the best thing to ever happen to this city. You piss people off cause you challenge the status quo and tell everyone what you think. Why do people want to hide what is going on. If not for you the city would be bankrupted and taxes would be twice as high.

God help us all if "she" were to become our mayor.
