george why does isanti police do speed traps on hwy 65 all the time ? if they stop someone does that money from the fine go to the city or the state ? why not patrol the city of isanti streets since we pay there wages with city taxes to do that. we pay state taxes for the state patrol to patrol the hwy's, if they have much time to do the state troopers job then maybe the city has to many officers.

I was surprised to see 2 City of Isanti police officers (paid not reserves) hanging around the Owls game on Saturday night. My family was there the entire night and it was a fun game with an enthusiastic audience. There were no rowdy or drunk people. I also wonder if we have too many officers on duty if they have time to stand around the arena when there is not a need. It’s time to trim the city’s budget maybe we need to look at this department. My favorite question to someone who says we need more police presence is “when is enough enough?”

The curious question is, if a need had arisen for a police officer would there then be complaints about the lack of officers had no officers been there.

Considering the location of the arena to the police station and it being a Saturday night what would be the difference between being at the arena or sitting at the police station.

Sure they could have been patrolling the streets but then that would be burning fuel and increasing costs.

Anonymous, I have been to several Ice Hawks versus Owls games this year. When I saw the two officers at the high intensity playoff game, I was very happy! Ice Hawk fans are very enthusiastic (meant WAY overboard, rude, and to the point of challenging people to fights). I personally witnessed at least three occassions where Ice Hawk fans were challenging fans, players, and even the announcer to fight outside.

In my eyes, it was necessary to see the police presence for a portion of the game. Thank you Chief Ron!!

one other area to consider for the upcoming summer

MOSQUITO CONTROL

They do not need to be out on 65 speed trapping when they could and should be speed trapping or at the very least be showing a police presense on

Whiskey road from south passage to county rd 5 or on

6th avenue from south passage to south brookview.

Especially in the morning when the kids are walking or riding bikes to school. I get passed while doing the speed limit on whiskey at least once a week while there are kids present. I see cars doing well over 30 MPH run the stop signs at 6th and Birch and the signs at 6th and Cedar multiple times daily while they are traveling on 6th ave.

I have yet to see anyone pulled over for it. I have no beef with the police department or any officer. My only beef is that they should be watching the speeders and idiots in general on the city streets where a speeder is more likely to hurt someone. Let the sheriff and troopers deal with 65.

Hwy 65 is in the city and the police can patrol it. I do not see them excessively on 65. The police do a good job patrolling our communities also. If they want to spend some time on 65 to do traffic not "speed trapping" We have to remember a lot of bad people use 65 to get around if our Cops can proactively work and make traffic stops that is good. Remember not all traffic stops are for speeding nor do they write tickets. They may pull drugs or weapons out of a vehicle or take a dangerous driver off the road. And yes people it is out there in every community. I feel that our streets are safer with our cops out here. If you do not want police protection move to a rural community that does not contract with their local Sheriff's office.
