Exciting Summer of Business

At the April 22nd EDA meeting, I will be outlining my marketing plan for this summer of exciting business developments in Isanti. The new Tax Abatement Policy was our key initiative in April. The Revolving Loan Fund with take center stage for May and in June I will be declaring an Isanti Employers Week to highlight the 1200 plus jobs in our great City.

We will recognize the hard work and dedication of our employers and are planning to hold an event at City Hall and the adjoining 30 west Main property. This is the intended location of our new Isanti Retail Meats. This will be a meat and cheese market that will provide everything from rotisserie chickens, a variety of side dishes and catering.

This business will draw customers from miles around and will be a corner stone for the growing Downtown Business District.

This is a drawing of the proposed Isanti Retail Meats. The name custom will be replaced for the retail business. The Current Isanti Custom Meats will continue in operation at the current location but is planning a new facade.

How will this bring people into the city from miles around? Won't they offer higher priced meat and cheese than Cub and WalMart? When Isanti Custom Meats changes their apperance will they be required to do something about the storage of waste behind the store?

My understanding is that there will be a range of items to purchase but this will be a specialty shop. The cut of meat here will be quite a bit better than at other chain stores.

There is no comparing this type of business and the dedicated customers it brings to national chains.

I do not agree with the arguement that locally owned businesses can not thrive due to competetion with national chains. If that were the case Isanti would not have Rendezvous, Isanti Hardware Hank or the Creamery.

The Meat/cheese market will be a draw as many similiar businesses are throughout the midwest that I am aware of.

The storage of items at the current state inspected facility has improved since I was first made aware of the issues several years ago. We have had discussions on the processing of animals at the other facility and storage. The two projects are not linked but I do hope that all of Main St. will be getting a face lift. This is a goal of the Downtown Subcommittee I serve on. There will be several noticable changes this year and more to come in the future.

some people will never be happy. don't let them get you down george. i hope you stay as our mayor. things are actually moving in the right direction even with all this crap happening with foreclosures and people getting kicked out of their homes.

Smaller, local retailers who want to continue to do business in a market with larger retailers like Cub, Wal-Mart, Target, Menards, etc. have to provide something unique that the big boxes can't or choose not to offer. These unique quailities do in fact draw in business.

As a small retail business owner myself (I own Isanti Hardware Hank) I'm always looking for products and services I can provide that can't be found elsewhere, and I have no doubt that Isanti Retail Meats will do the same.

I can give the anonymous writer many good reasons why people choose to patronize smaller retailers (quality and service to start with), but an important thing to consider is this: The owners of Isanti Retail Meats will be investing tens if not hundreds of thousands of dollars in real money into their Downtown Isanti store. This is above and beyond any help they may get from the City in the way of tax breaks, loans or land. In the long term they will be helping to lower your property taxes. You then get to vote with your wallet as to whether or not you want this type of investment to contine in Downtown Isanti. In the end, all voting "yes" will cost you is the occasional purchase of a really great steak... and you won't have to drive very far to get it.

Mayor Wimmer, the City's staff, and especially the business owners involved in this project deserve a pat on the back for their work toward bringing this project to Downtown Isanti. My mouth is watering already!
